Does spicy food destroy taste buds?
When we eat something extremely spicy, it may seem like our taste buds stop working. However, this is just a temporary reaction of the body to protect itself from the perceived heat. The taste buds are not permanently damaged.

Does eating spicy food help with childbirth?
This is another myth. Eating spicy foods during pregnancy may cause some discomfort, as it does for many people, but it has not been proven to help induce labor.

Do chili peppers cause acid reflux?
Again, spicy food is not the main cause of acid reflux, although it can aggravate an existing condition.

Does spicy food thin the stomach lining?
The thinning of the stomach lining is usually attributed to Helicobacter pylori or the prolonged use of anti-inflammatory drugs and steroids, not to the consumption of spicy food. At most, spicy food can cause a temporary burning sensation.

Does spicy food create addiction?
Some might argue that once you start eating spicy food, it's hard to stop, but this is not a true addiction. A study from Northwestern University states: "You may constantly crave spicy foods, but this doesn't mean your body is dependent on them, as it is with substances like caffeine or nicotine." It is more accurate to say that there is a chemical reaction, such as the release of endorphins, which can lead to a feeling of euphoria.

How to Soothe a Burning Mouth?
If the spiciness becomes unbearable, many suggest drinking a beer, but this is a questionable choice. In fact, water can intensify the burning sensation. Experts from the American Chemical Society (ACS) instead recommend consuming milk, yogurt, or ice cream. Capsaicin, the active compound in spicy foods, is not very soluble in water but dissolves better in fats.
