This quick and easy recipe will guide you through the steps to make a delicious Mexican hot sauce using fresh and spicy ingredients. Perfect for accompanying nachos, tacos, burritos, or any other dish that needs a little fire.
Ingredients
  • 400 g of cherry tomatoes
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • A pinch of Habanero Chocolate chili powder (or any other chili)
  • 1 teaspoon of tomato paste
  • 1 spring onion
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons of apple cider or rice vinegar
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • 1 garlic clove
  • Extra virgin olive oil (EVO) as needed
  • 1 teaspoon of cornstarch
Preparation
  • Finely chop the garlic and spring onion.
  • Wash and halve the cherry tomatoes.
  • Dice the red bell pepper.
  • In a large pan, heat some EVO oil over medium heat.
  • Add the garlic and spring onion and sauté until golden brown.
  • Add the cherry tomatoes, red bell pepper, and chili powder.
  • Mix well and add the tomato paste.
  • Cook everything for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the sugar, ground cumin, and apple cider or rice vinegar.
  • Mix well to combine all the ingredients.
  • Use an immersion blender to blend the sauce until smooth.
  • If the sauce is too thick, add some water to adjust the consistency.
  • Bring the sauce back to a boil.
  • Dissolve the teaspoon of cornstarch in a bit of water and add it to the sauce, stirring well to avoid lumps.
  • Continue cooking until the desired thickness is reached.
  • Pour the hot sauce into sterilized jars.
  • Seal the jars and let them rest for at least an hour before enjoying.
